Toronto

And I always feel a man without a woman is like a fish without a tail.

Dear Tom & boys,

Thank you for your letter. The ship with my trunk arrives on 25 April in Montreal. T.D.F. have managed to hire me for only two weeks while one of the illustrators is holidaying in Florida. But that’s not too bad at $100 a week. So directly I get a full time job, it won’t be long before you get the money I owe you.

Once I have my trunk and package and my suitcase it will be much better because all I have is the suit I went away with. Also my trunk has my artist equipment in . Then I can also do some freelance.

I have never seen so much rain as there has been in the last weeks here in Toronto and New York. Right now it is raining and cold outside. It was also snowing at Easter when I was in the Catskills in New York at Hermanns summer cottage.

As regards as fixing that pencil sketch of mum, you must get a fixative spray from an art store.

I am very well and am looking forward to saving some money because I want to go to Paris so much and live there. Gerti wants that more than I do. She is such a nice girl and does everything for me. Always she is asking me “have you enough money” or “make sure you eat breakfast”. Which I do for sure. She even stuffed a ten dollar bill in my pocket while I wasn’t looking. But I told her I have enough money. Anyhow there’s a woman for you. And I always feel a man without a woman is like a fish without a tail.

Anyhow look after yourself. Hansi sends many regards.

Yours, Dave

P.S. Hope Lena has recovered alright and is well again. Please give her my best.
